- Requirements
- Safety gear: Yes. Safety glasses stay on throughout. Feet fully enclosed in thick-soled, closed-toed shoes: no sandals, crocs, flip-flops or clogs.
- Fitness and accessibility: Yes. Walkers are fine if usable on uneven surfaces. The factory has no climate control; visitors sensitive to extremes can wait in the Op Shop. Oxygen tanks are not permitted on the tour.
About
Kokomo Opalescent Glass Co. makes sheet art glass in a factory that has run continuously since 1888. The public tour shows how the glass is made and ends with a small gift. The hot glass studio was damaged in a storm and is only slowly resuming, so tours currently leave out the hot glass part. The tour needs thick-soled closed shoes, safety glasses and clothing for an unheated factory.
