About

The Quincy Mine in Hancock, Michigan, mined copper underground from 1846 to 1945 and is a heritage site of Keweenaw National Historical Park. The full tour takes about two and a quarter hours: 30 to 45 minutes above ground at the steam hoist, then a walk of about a mile, mostly underground at 43 degrees on wet gravel. Mobility assistance by an underground vehicle can be arranged before booking, but not on winter tours. Above-ground-only and smelter tours and a free self-guided landscape walk are also mentioned and are not covered here.

Getting there

49750 US Hwy 41, Hancock, MI, 49930

The address given is the mailing address on US Highway 41. In winter, guests drive their own vehicle about 10 minutes on Highway 41 to the mine entrance (adit) and walk a short way through packed snow.

The pin marks the site itself, not necessarily the entrance (47.13833, -88.56972). Apple Maps directions go to the street address instead. Show on our map · Google Maps · Apple Maps
