      About

Shasta Dam is a Bureau of Reclamation dam on the Sacramento River, about 9 miles northwest of Redding, California, and the headwaters of the Central Valley Project. Reclamation guides run a free tour that walks across the top of the dam, rides an elevator down 400 feet, goes through the dam to a view of the spillway and includes the Shasta Powerplant. The visitor center and the tours run Friday through Tuesday only. Tour tickets are handed out an hour ahead and each tour is capped at 20 people, and the page tells visitors to call for current times.

Owner: Bureau of Reclamation. Run by: Bureau of Reclamation (Northern California Area Office).
